About Frenchies
With a tough looking outside and sweet as can be inside, as well as the adorable bat ears, the French Bulldog is becoming more and more popular each year. Being small and having a low maintenance short haired coat that comes in a variety of colors, makes the French Bulldog even more desirable. He doesn't need a great deal of exercise, fits comfortably into a condo or apartment, and is far less likely to bark than many small dogs. This makes him perfect for city living! This doesn't mean that the French Bulldog wouldn't appreciate a large suburban backyard though. The French Bulldog would also make the perfect family pet.
The Frenchie will make you laugh. They are known to be the clowns of the dog world. They also have a bit of a stubborn streak but they're smart as a whip. Bred for centuries as a companion, they are extremely friendly, and become particularly attached to their family. This makes it really hard on them to be alone for too many hours of the day. So if you work long hours or travel often, the French Bulldog might not be the right fit for you. Being brachycephalic (flat-faced) makes regulating their body temperature difficult so they need to live in a climate-controlled environment at all times.
The Frenchie can take a little more time to potty train if you are not consistent. Puppy pads, potty bells, and limiting where they are allowed to go in the house with baby gates can help tremendously.
For exercise, Frenchies love to do their zoomies and run through the house. A short daily walk of 15 to 20 minutes will help to keep them in shape. Schedule walks and outdoor playtime for cool mornings and evenings.
When puppies, French Bulldogs are big time chewers so make sure you have plenty of toys and bones. Puppy-proofing the house is also highly recommended as you don't want your pup getting ahold of any electrical cords or poisonous house plants.
A French Bulldog (if the right fit for you) can be life-changing in the best way possible. They are sweet, stubborn, funny, and downright adorable. As the saying goes, "Frenchies are like potato chips! One is never enough!"
